FFXIV – Level 1–50 Main Story & Job Guide

Final Fantasy XIV · Game · Last updated Mar 2, 2026

Goal of This Guide

This guide helps new Warriors of Light:

  • Reach level **50**
  • Finish the **A Realm Reborn** main scenario
  • Understand their chosen job's basics

Step 1 – Pick a Role, Not a Job Forever

FFXIV lets you swap jobs freely, so first decide:

  • **Tank** – leads the group, controls enemies.
  • **Healer** – keeps everyone alive, adds DPS when safe.
  • **DPS** – focuses on damage and mechanics.

Recommended Starter Jobs

  • Tank: **Paladin** or **Warrior**
  • Healer: **White Mage**
  • DPS: **Dragoon**, **Bard**, or **Black Mage**

Step 2 – Prioritize the Main Scenario Quest (MSQ)

1. Follow the Meteor-icon quests – that's the MSQ.

2. Only pick side quests that unlock:

  • Dungeons
  • Features (Glamour, Gold Saucer, retainers)
  • Roulettes

Efficient EXP Sources

  • Daily **Leveling Roulette**
  • Daily **Trial Roulette**
  • **Hunting Log** up to rank 3
  • Early **FATEs** when passing through zones

Step 3 – Job Quests & Rotations

Every 5 levels (up to 50), your job trainer gives a job quest:

  • Grants key abilities and sometimes gear.
  • Teaches you the basic rotation, like:
  • Tank: 1–2–3 combo + mitigation
  • Healer: Keep DoT up; fill GCD with damage between heals
  • DPS: Maintain DoTs/buffs, use procs on cooldown

Lore – Your Job in the World

Each job line teaches something about Eorzea:

  • Paladins and Warriors explore city-state militaries.
  • Black Mage quests dig into forbidden magicks.
  • White Mage quests explore the Elementals and Gridania's history.

Step 4 – First Trials & Dungeons

By level 50, you should:

  • Have cleared **Ifrit, Titan, Garuda** story trials.
  • Finished dungeons like **Brayflox, Stone Vigil, Dzemael**.
  • Learned not to:
  • Pull ahead of the tank
  • Stand in obvious AoEs
  • Ignore markers or stack mechanics

Once you finish "The Ultimate Weapon" and patch quests up to 2.55, you're ready for Heavensward, where the story and job complexity really take off.
